What happens at Siena Heights Orientation (SHO)?
At SHO Day, you get to know SHU!
Siena Heights Orientation (SHO) Days offer a fun, interactive way for students to meet and engage with other students and learn about all that Siena Heights University has to offer. Supporters also have an opportunity to meet and engage with other supporters, learn about various programs and resources on campus in an effort to answer various questions.
What is an Academic Advisor?
Your Academic Advisor is your go-to for any questions or concerns about college. They are your connection to other offices, such as Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Registrar, and more. They also will help you choose classes each semester and check in on you from time to time. You are expected to meet with them regularly throughout your college experience. Your Academic Advisor will be reaching out to you the summer before you first semester.
What is a Faculty Mentor?
A faculty mentor is a wonderful resource to assist you as you navigate your way through your chosen field. You will be assigned to a FM when you declare your major. You will be expected to meet with them regularly throughout your college experience for things like: internships, course electives, graduate school questions, and more. Your Academic Advisor and Faculty Mentor work together as a team to support you.
What if I have AP or College Credit?
This information will be used in scheduling your classes. Please be sure to get all AP, IB, or Dual Enrolled information to your Admissons Counselor as soon as you are enrolled. If you notice an inconsistency in your schedule, you can sign up for an appointment with your Academic Advisor to modify things.
What is Welcome Week?
Welcome Week is required by all first-year students to attend as it is the beginning of the LAS100 course. During Welcome Week, you will be grouped with your LAS100 classmates and Orientation Team (OTeam). You will have the opportunity to go to camp, be invited to a Siena faculty or staff member's house for dinner and much more! Students create lasting friendships in their Orientation Team and we know you will too!
